Having healthy food is one of the aspects that people should pay special attention to if they want to live a long and healthy life. Everyone knows this and – some more than others – also do it. However, despite having the goal of following a healthy and balanced diet, people are not always careful with the food safety of the ingredients they are going to eat.

And, in this chapter, there are many mistakes that are made and give rise to food poisoning, stomach infections, among other types of health problems. How to avoid food poisoning? That’s what we’re going to show you next by introducing the seven serious food safety mistakes you should avoid.

1. Do Not Wash Your Hands Whenever You Touch Food

One of the biggest food mistakes that you should avoid is related to the fact that you handle food before washing your hands. The act of hand wash – especially now that we all go through a critical situation is indispensable for your health.

You should wash your hands constantly – especially the palms and back of your hands, with natural soap and water or other sanitizing products. Only then will you be able to eliminate all germs and bacteria that are lodged in your hands and then enjoy a delicious meal.

2. Do You Have Weaker Defenses? Don’t Eat Risky Foods!

People who have weaker defenses are more likely to suffer from food poisoning. And that is because their immune system is not as strong as other people’s, which makes them more likely to get sick and suffer from various health problems.

This is a risk group that includes people aged 65 and over, pregnant women, children under the age of 5, and people with chronic diseases or who take immunosuppressive drugs that offer them a minimum of quality of life.

Since they are people with a weakened immune system, they cannot eat anything because, in their case, any type of infection or food poisoning can be fatal. And as such, they cannot eat raw meat, undercooked meat, sausages, seafood, and anything related to unpasteurized food.
