At some point or another, everyone experiences dental problems; cavities, inflamed gums, dental plaque, teeth discoloration, or teeth tartar, that ruin their dental health and pearly smile.

Speaking of dental tartar, do you know exactly what it is?

Dental tartar, also known as dental calculus, is a yellow or brownish deposit that is caused by hardened plaque on your teeth that can become difficult to remove, especially when new plaque forms on top of it.

Plaque is the bacteria-filled buildup resulting from food mixtures, fluids, and saliva, which also lead to teeth discoloration and real damage due to poor oral hygiene.

Leaving plaque or tartar untreated may result in gum disease, so you must start taking procedures now! And, it turns out that you don’t have to spend too much on dental treatment because there are cheap yet effective ways to remove tartar and bring back your bright smile. Read on to find out!

7. Orange peel

Your grandparents weren’t acting weird when they would sometimes rub their teeth with orange or lemon peels!

This old trick is still useful even in this day and age, all thanks to the acids that oranges contain.

Next time, do not throw the peels after eating an orange, rub them directly onto your teeth for 2 minutes to remove the bacteria and other microorganisms that have built up on the enamel. Do not rinse your mouth until after a good 10 minutes. Brush your teeth properly and repeat this hack for several days.

6. Lemon juice

You want the white back to your teeth? Why not try using lemon juice?

First of all, lemon acids are powerful and can harm your teeth enamel if you don’t dilute it, so make sure to mix it with water and use it as an instant mouthwash alternative.

Or, you can mix diluted lemon juice with baking soda, apply it to your toothbrush and brush your teeth thoroughly with it. Next, rinse with lukewarm water.

Remember to use lemon juice in moderation!

5. Baking soda and salt

This combination is a simple yet very effective way to remove tartar and brighten your teeth, thanks to the pH in baking soda and the antibacterial properties in salt.

Dip your toothbrush in a mix of baking soda and salt and brush your teeth gently with it for up to 3 minutes.

Or, you can add this mix to your toothpaste and brush your teeth with it once a week. Avoid overusing this mixture on your teeth to prevent enamel damage.

4. Sesame seeds

Sesame seeds aren’t just good for salad seasoning, but they’re also very effective when it comes to removing tartar from teeth, owing to their high calcium concentration that helps protect teeth and gums.

Fill a tablespoon with sesame seeds and chew the seeds for a few minutes. When it turns into a paste, scrub your teeth with it to polish them, using a toothbrush.

Repeat this twice a week and the plaque and tartar won’t see the light of day!

3. Essential oils & Aloe Vera gel

Coconut oil, lemon oil, or clove oil will work perfectly with Aloe Vera gel to remove teeth tartar and promote your dental health.

The anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties in these oils, plus the strong cleansing ability of Aloe Vera, can destroy the microorganisms on your teeth and turn your teeth from yellow to white.

All you’ve got to do is mix one of these essential oils with Aloe Vera and warm water and swish them in your mouth for up to 10 minutes.

2. Apple cider vinegar

Diluted apple cider vinegar mixed with salt will work wonders for your teeth.

Mix 2 tablespoons of salt and apple cider vinegar (or white vinegar) with warm water and swish the mix in your mouth for several minutes.

Or, soak your toothbrush in this mix and brush your teeth properly. The result? You can already guess that!

1. Cloves

Whole cloves are powerful on their own, thanks to their antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties that help prevent gum disease and act as a natural anesthetic that relieves tooth pain and other dental problems.

Simply chew on a handful of cloves or soak a piece of cotton in cloves oil and scrub your yellow teeth with it. You can also apply clove powder to your toothbrush and brush your teeth.

Now you have no excuse not to care for your teeth when you have something as cheap and attainable as cloves!

Do not forget the golden rules: flossing, brushing and rinsing your teeth every day. Show off your full, happy smile!
