© rogelcancercenter Most of us only think about our valuable pancreas when someone says “pancreatic cancer.” This is the deadliest type of cancer due to its critically low survival rates, which makes early detection of the disease quite difficult. According to medical experts, early detection is hard in the case of non-cancer pancreas problems as well. This flat and long organ that’s tucked deep in your abdomen produces hormones and enzymes that promote proper digestion. Although symptoms of pancreas problems can be choosy, there are a few warning signs that one needs to see a doctor ASAP.

#5 – Your stool looks weird

If your stool is floating and its color is becoming lighter, it’s a sign that your body is failing to absorb nutrients properly. In fact, the enzymes produced by the pancreas help in digesting fat and absorbing fat-soluble vitamins. So, when this organ is interrupted, those enzymes aren’t properly manufactured, which results in paler and less dense feces. And in case your stool is greasy or oily, it means that your body couldn’t break down the dietary fat, which is manifested as a film of oil on the toilet water. If you usually experience weird-looking poop, you should consult a doctor as soon as possible.

#4 – Your insides ache

Abdominal pain is a common symptom of both pancreatic cancer and acute pancreatitis. However, depending on the lurking condition, the pain can be manifested in different ways. For instance, long-lasting pain that starts in the middle before traveling to the mid or lower back might indicate pancreatic cancer. But in the case of sudden and intense pain which is focused in the middle of your abdomen, it may be a sign of acute pancreatitis. Either way, don’t be scared if you experience similar stomach aches or pain because the majority of cases are mild, just make sure to visit a doctor before it gets complicated.

#3 – You’re experiencing early signs of diabetes

The hormones produced by your pancreas actually help keep both your blood sugar levels and your body’s production of insulin under control. People with a damaged pancreas commonly develop type 2 diabetes.
