You want the benefits of regular exercise without joining a gym and paying a monthly membership fee. We get it. You don’t need to pay to have a healthy body.

All you need is willpower.
In the past few years, a large number of people have started working out at home, mainly due to the popularity of smartphone fitness apps. It’s practical, cheap, and you don’t have to waste time commuting to the health club nearby.

Of course, you can argue that going to the gym gives you extra motivation or that you have a professional follow-up from one of their personal trainers. But if you learn the basics and have the right tools, you can achieve similar results.

Here are a few tips on how to work out from home without any workout gear other than an exercise mat!

1. Set your goals

It’s important to establish your goals from the very start. Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to lose localized fat such as belly fat? Or do you want to strengthen your muscles? Whatever your intention may be, it must be well-defined so you can assess your progress.

Log your initial weight, body mass index, body fat percentage, and whatever other indicators you might need (such as body measurements, for example) in an app or a notebook. You might have to go to a pharmacy or a gym to collect all the data you need from a special scale.

Also, don’t forget about the importance of a healthy diet. Without it, it may simply not be possible to achieve the goals you have set. In this case, it is best to pay a nutritionist to make you a strict meal plan packed with healthy food and well suited to your lifestyle.

2. Find a workout schedule that suits your lifestyle

Finding time during the day to be fully motivated to exercise and prepared to give everything you got is essential.

Some people prefer a morning workout (morning exercise is a great way to start the day energized), others like to exercise after work, and some prefer to do it late at night while watching an episode of their favorite TV show. Either is great, as long as it works for you.
