Since fevers can be a sign of infection, any kind of pain that is accompanied by fevers is not easy to diagnose – it could range from a simple stomach virus to something more serious. Stomach viruses will make you experience intermittent pain, vomiting, and diarrhea, and the best way to treat these symptoms is simply staying hydrated and let the virus go away by itself. However, if your fever is higher than 102 °F and is accompanied by severe upper abdominal pain, this can be a sign of a more serious infection that requires your doctor’s attention.
5. If It’s A Ripping Pain
If the pain gives you a shearing or ripping sensation and feels like it is moving to the back, this is a serious emergency – this kind of pain can be a sign of aortic dissection, which literally means you might be experiencing a tear on the main artery that takes oxygen to the rest of your body. If you don’t get diagnosed and treated as soon as possible, there is a serious risk of disability or even death.
6. If You Can’t Find Relief
Heartburn can be caused by acid reflux, and this is a pretty common condition that can be treated with over-the-counter medications. This pain can be quite strong, but usually, the medication is enough to make it go away. If you seem to experience this kind of pain after eating a large meal or after consuming certain foods, maybe you should start thinking about changing your diet. However, if nothing works, you should see a doctor.
7. If You Have A Worrisome Medical History
People who have suffered from heart disease, diabetes, abdominal surgeries or aneurysms, for example, should go to the ER for the simple fact that they are experiencing abdominal pain. This kind of health history may completely change the meaning of abdominal pain – for other people it could be nothing, for these people it could be a life-threatening condition that is manifesting.
